KOTOR: Are lightsabers Melee weapons?

During feat selection, there are lightsaber feats and melee feats. The
melee feats are much better than the light saber feats (the melee feats
include defense bonuses). Are light sabers counted as melee weapons?
(because it would seem that light saber proficiency should come after
melee, with requirements of being a Jedi). TIA.

For training, lightsaber is different than melee. So if you train in
lightsaber proficiency it won't make you any better at using regular swords
and vice versa. However, you can use the melee attack feats with either
weapon type - Critical Strike, Flurry, etc.

For training, lightsaber is different than melee. So if you train in
lightsaber proficiency it won't make you any better at using regular
swords and vice versa. However, you can use the melee attack feats

OK - so a +2/+2 in a melee feat - will not effect a character using a
lightsaber.

help you out with your lightsaber. The lightsaber feats will help you do
lightsaber specific functions better like deflect laser shots back at the
enemies and lightsaber throws.

OK - I was thinking more specific to light saber proficieny - the melee
feats are better with +2 attack and defense to a light saber proficiency of
+1 attack.

They are not melee weapons. You can confirm this by looking at the dice
rolls if you have the relevant feats. Only Light Saber focus and
specialization give you a bonus when using a light saber, melee focus/spec
do not. If you are asking if the Duelist feats work with lightsaber, yes it
does, it works with any single weapon.
